Went to try it out and take advantage of the HRW menu. Service was very friendly, accommodating and answered all our questions. It feels like a place for dates and family gatherings. We started with the bread basket... so good, the ciabatta bread had a nice crust with a chewy inside. The other was an olive foccacia. I ordered the INSALATA CAESAR - my niece loves Caesar salad so I gave it to her and she ate every single morsel. She has very discerning tastes... so it must have been good. Second Course was the POLLO AL MATTONE - it was white meat chicken and the skin was crispy and the meat was juicy, tender and full of flavor. It was accompanied with potatoes, olives, heirloom tomatoes & rapini (I did not care for the potatoes they were not soft. All other veggies were good.) Third Course was the TORTA DI OLIO D'OLIVA - the cake had the consistency of pound cake... I enjoyed it. It was a nice finish to the meal. I never had to ask for a drink refill... the server just brought it... nice.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Houston! We love coming to Trattoria Sofia for an early dinner on Friday or Saturday night and sit at the bar. There is just enough buzz at that time to be interesting but it's not crazy or loud. My husband always enjoys their inventive cocktails or his failsafe, a Negoni. I like their crisp white Pinot Grigo by the glass. As for food, the whipped ricotta drizzled with spicy honey and charred garlic is wonderful as is the truffled Polenta with sauteed mushrooms. That along with the Kale Salad is perfect. My husband is more adventurous and has had fun trying many of their dishes such as the Lamb Ragu (A+), Bucatini with Pesto and Cioppino with mussels. You pretty much have to valet park given the tiny parking lot commandeered by the Valet Staff but the parking charge is only $6, so not crazy. Definitely recommend!
A dinner delight! A green gala! The pesto bucatini was quite pleasing and the cocktails rocktailed my socktails off, particularly the modena cup and the sicilian. Some say Sicily is the Texas of Italy and their use of Mezcal inclines me to agree. Service was kind and ambiance was architecturally thrilling.
I LOVED the vibe here! It's the perfect date night. Valet after 4pm for only $6 is not bad at all. It is recommended to make reservations though especially on the weekend. We walked in without one around 6:30pm on a Saturday and they did not have any available tables until 8:15pm. The host offered the bar area which seemed a lot quieter than the rest of the restaurant. We were okay with that, but another guy came up to us and offered to show us their covered patio. I was SO impressed by the vibes and ambiance of this place. Everyone was dressed so nice and pretty! The guy was hyping up his back patio bartender, John. Well, John lived up to the hype and he gave us PHENOMENAL service. We sat at the back bar, but John explained everything thoroughly, gave recommendations, details on flavors of the foods, and even made me a killer lemon drop martini. Best I've ever had. The food was amazing and the portions were perfect. Not too much, not too little. Flavors were immaculate as my pasta was loaded with taste! I definitely want to go back soon. $160 for both of us including tip. Granted we ate from the restaurant week menu. They extended it until end of September so please go check it out! $39 dinner and you get to choose 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and 1 dessert. Sit in the back with John!!!!
My recent visit to Trattoria Sofia was nothing short of delightful, I took my sister there for the first time and she loved it. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a standout feature being the beautiful tree adorned with twinkling lights right in the middle of the restaurant. It instantly reminded me of the enchanting setting in the book It Ends with Us, where Atlas's restaurant also had a similar magical tree. Now, onto the food! A few dishes truly stood out during my meal: Ricotta Di Pecora (Whipped Ricotta Dip): This dish was the perfect blend of savory and sweet. The whipped ricotta was incredibly creamy and flavorful, served with perfectly toasted bread that complemented it beautifully. Bucatini alla Pesto Siciliano: This pasta dish was a revelation. The bucatini was cooked to perfection, and the pesto Siciliano sauce was rich and aromatic, making every bite a pleasure. Overall, Trattoria Sofia offers a wonderful dining experience with its charming atmosphere and delectable dishes. It's a place where you can enjoy a memorable meal in a setting that feels both cozy and magical.
Tried out this place for Houston Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint! I went for a 5:45 reservation and was able to grab a seat at the bar and catch the tail end of happy hour. To drink, I had the espresso martini and spiced pear mocktail. Both were amazing. The martini was well balanced. As my first course I had the Caesar salad, which was not that great (an average salad). For my second course, I had the bucatini alla pesto which was AMAZING. I had never had a pesto pasta and thoroughly enjoyed this. As my last course, I opted for the vanilla bean panna cotta. The texture was interesting but the flavor was good. I wish it was a bit sweeter. Service was timely and pleasant. I would def dine in again.
A lovely Italian spot . The ambiance is nice and their food is delicious Parking: They do have a parking lot, but on the weekends it is valet only. There is street parking down but it fills up pretty quickly and you may have a bit of a walk down to the restaurant. Valet does accept venmo and CC. I thinks it's about $6 Seating: They have 3 areas: the bar has a few high tops and bar seating, inside has tables and booths from 2-4 (maybe 6) tops, and the outside patio has more seating as well The patio is partially cooled. We went for an early dinner the other day and it was quite hot out there, but moved under a fan and it was lovely. Food: The food is always amazing! I'm a fan of anything with pesto so I do admit I frequently get the same dish. We tried the pasta special this time as well which was a seafood option - it was absolutely delicious but at a $52 price point really put quite a dent in our bill itself. Service: We usually have pretty good service but this last time it was lacking. Our server was very attentive at first but we had to flag people down multiple times towards the end for to-go boxes and the check. Price: We've been coming here for years but have noticed the prices creep quite a but lately. It's definitely on the higher end in our experience these days. That being said, it's still worth it especially if you're having a nicer evening/date night.
